Power On Social Hour - Monthly Event

Our Power on Social Hour is held monthly, on the 4th Wednesday of every month at 6 PM Pacific Time. We're here to support one another, celebrate our wins, commiserate over our losses and help one another trouble shoot the ever-changing obstacles life throws at us.

This Month:

This month, we'll hear from a fellow amputee and new friend of mine, Jody Stein! She's going to share what she's learned about navigating travel and airports and share some tips with us.

Jody's Bio:

I am originally from Parsippany, New Jersey. Played high school varsity basketball, softball, and tennis. Was recruited by 236 colleges and universities to play college basketball and decided to play Division I College Basketball on a full basketball scholarship to Saint Louis University in Saint Louis, Missouri. Also played College Softball there as a pitcher and 3rd baseman.

On June 23, 2017, I had my right leg amputated below the knee due to a traumatic injury in a hospital. I walk with a prosthetic, the coolest prosthetic, and have had a very positive attitude and great outlook on leading a life that has just taken me in a different direction than once previously planned. I feel that I can do anything that anyone else can achieve. I swim, I play golf, I kayak, and I ride an adult tricycle. I will try just about anything. If you tell me that I cannot do it, then you have just challenged me to do it! Life is all about having a positive outlook and attitude and believing in yourself.

I like to have fun and use humor in everything I do, and I incorporate that into teaching college mathematics as well as tutoring math, as I do both part-time jobs just for fun!

Every time that I get some free time, I just love and enjoy traveling. I am always thinking about where I could go next! Of course, it usually will involve flying, so to Harry Reid, Las Vegas International Airport I go at least 3 hours prior to my flight no matter which airline I book. TSA and I have become good friends, well, sort of! Let us just say we have gotten to know each other well and I would love to share my knowledge regarding the ins and outs of navigating airline travel!
